Happy #GivingTuesday! This marks the 6th year of the global movement, which was originally started in the United States by the UN Foundation. Giving Tuesday’s mission is all centered around giving and charity. It is an extremely important day that celebrates and encourages giving and volunteering activities that support any and all charities and nonprofit organizations.
How can YOU get involved? The exciting thing is EVERYONE can get involved! Families, individuals, and companies are encouraged to join the movement by giving and volunteering in whatever ways matter to them! Give in a way where you can positively affect the lives of others.
Pancreatic Cancer Canada focuses their attentions on fighting pancreatic cancer on a daily basis. The charity gives in the means of supporting research into detection, effective treatment options, and ultimately, improving overall patient survival rates and finding a cure for pancreatic cancer. You can give to this organization in the means of a monetary donation, a vehicle donation, a memorial/honour gift, matched gifts, and much more!
Food4Kids is determined to show the community that youth hunger can be eliminated if we all take it upon ourselves to give back to the at-risk, low-income, or disadvantaged homes. There are many children in our communities with little or no food every weekend. Every Friday, Food4Kids volunteers deliver packages of healthy food to schools to ensure these children have the appropriate nourishment over the weekend. You can give to this organization through monetary or vehicle donations, food gift cards, one-time grants, or by sponsoring a child in their “Weekends without Hunger” or “Summer Feeding program.” One vehicle donation can feed one child every weekend for the entire school year.
541 Eatery and Exchange is an eatery and place of exchange where a pay-it-forward button system allows the hungry to use donated buttons as currency in exchange for a healthy meal. In addition, they use their space and proceeds from food sales to facilitate community initiatives like homework club, a youth employment program, and other skills training opportunities. 541 Eatery & Exchange gives back to the needs of the local community in tangible ways through their faith-based initiatives. The Boys & Girls Clubs offers life changing experiences that are affordable, accessible, and reliable with a focus on children’s learning and skills development. They give in the means of working together with families and volunteers in their communities, creating healthy community solutions to providing children and youth the essentials for their development. Speaking of Dogs Rescue is dedicated to assisting senior dogs from shelters as well as taking in dogs surrendered by their owner when space allows. This organization gives in the means of offering shelter or sanctuary for dogs, providing them with any needed medical attention, and actively seeking new homes for rescued dogs.
