Q: What type of paperwork do I need to donate?

A:  You will need to present us with the ownership papers for your vehicle.

Q: If I don’t have the title/ownership papers, can I still donate? 

A: Yes, as long as you have other documentation to prove ownership of the vehicle.

Q What happens if the registration is expired? 

A: Registration doesn't expire. Only insurance expires.

Q I don’t have insurance on the car, can I still donate? 

A: Yes, you can.

Q I am the Executor /Executrix or Power of Attorney. May I donate the car? 

A: Yes, you may.

Q Does my vehicle need to be E-tested or certified to donate? 

A: Absolutely not. We accept the vehicle as it is.

Q How is the value of the tax receipt determined?

A: Cars 4 Cures is owned and staffed by 2 families that have been in the auto recycling and scrap metal business in Canada for 3 generations. 

Based on that industry expertise, coupled with the use of North America’s largest auction database, we are able to arrive at a fair market value which we can both support and guarantee.

The charity, in compliance with CRA regulations, provides you with a tax receipt for the fair market value of the vehicle you have donated to the charity.

Vehicle Pick-Up

Q: Who will pick-up my donated car? 

A: We will arrange pick-up from a local towing company in your area.

Q: Do I need to be there when you pick-up my car? 

A: No, you do not need to be there. Simply leave the keys to your car and the ownership papers in the glove compartment.

Q: Can you pick-up my car from any location? 

A: Yes we can, within our geographical zone.

Q: Will you call the day of the pick-up to confirm? 

A: Depending on the time of day, we will confirm either same day or one day in advance.

Q: Are there any tow costs I will have to pay? 

A: No, there are not.

Q: What happens to the vehicle after it's picked-up?

A: After your donated vehicle is taken, we pay the charity the quoted fair market value of the vehicle. The vehicle is evaluated and either sold, processed for scrap, sourced for parts or disposed of.

Q: What do I do with my license plates? 

A: Please remove your license plates. If you're unable to, we will help.

Q: Can I drop off my car? 

A: Absolutely! Feel free to bring it to our shop.


Q: How do you choose the charities? Can I suggest a charity that isn’t on the pick list? 

A: We are happy to send funds from your donated vehicle to a recognized, donor designated charity of your choice.

Q: When and how do I receive my receipt?

A: Your chosen charity will issue your tax receipt to acknowledge your generous donation to their charity.

Q: Will I always receive a tax receipt?

A: Yes, if you choose a charity from our partner list. If you choose a charity not listed in our charities section, a receipt will not be issued.

Q: Can I use the receipt to claim a tax credit?

A: Yes, your receipt will be an official receipt for Canadian income tax purposes. You will be able to use the receipt in claiming available tax deductions/credits in accordance with the charitable donation tax rules applicable to your circumstances.
